The once optimistically futuristic statues of the Palacio Minetti, on Córdoba St., salute the whole city and the world, urbi et orbi… or so they hoped to do. When the Palacio was built, it must have been an immense monument to Art Déco, and the green pyramid that crowns it and serves as the stand for these figures must have been visible from miles away. Yet I didn’t know them until recently, and most still don’t; most won’t lift up their eyes and bend their necks trying to zoom in on them. They (the statues) are lost. They look south and waive to a city that put them there on a pedestal — a pedestal so high it turned them into mere crownings, spikes, trivial discoveries for the urban explorer.
